The United-Kingdom-based symposium brought together an elite group of seasoned U.S. class actions specialists together with European and international practitioners, judges, regulators, academics, in-house lawyers, funders, claims administrators, economists, and other experts to exchange knowledge and experience while expanding their professional networks. It was held in person at The Law Society in London and is available via an interactive webcast.

Overall discussion topics included:

  • How to bring a competition claim and the issues attendant to handling it.
  • The need to define the claim’s scope at an early stage. What is the theory of harm? How do you define and what is the volume of contested commerce?
  • The challenge of identifying, obtaining, and presenting the right data to put forward that answers the competition lawsuit’s relevant claims.
  • The asynchronicity of data: Plaintiffs and defendants have different abilities to access and deal with it. How can an agreement be reached and efforts be made to level out this situation? Availability, accessibility, reliability, and usability of data are the key hurdles to clear to present an effective case.

Panel Chair: Joseph Saveri (Founder & Partner, The Joseph Saveri Law Firm)
Panelists: Nils von Hinten Reed (Founder and Managing Director, CEG Europe), Trevor Horwitz (Senior Consultant, Consilio), and Frédéric Palomino (Senior Vice President, Compass Lexecon).
