Mike Shea joined the firm as its controller in 2023. He is a skilled administrator with strong analytical, problem solving, accounting, and human resources experience. He thrives on using his accounting and financial management, risk and data analysis, problem and conflict resolution, business administration, budgeting and cost containment, and workflow management skills to address wide-ranging challenges.
Prior to joining the firm, Mike was a controller/firm administrator for Tarkington, O'Neill, Barrack & Chongat (Tarkington), a Santa Rosa, California-based civil litigation firm. For over 20 years, he managed daily operations to help facilitate growth and achieve business objectives. He oversaw all accounting functions; managed building & equipment leases, banking relationships, insurance contracts and policies, and facilitated recruiting, hiring, and supervision of associates and administrative staff. He also provided financial input to shareholders, prepared year-end tax-related documents, supervised all HR functions, conducted risk assessment of financial and confidentiality issues, and managed IT services.
For seven years prior to his controller/firm administrator position, Mike was an accounting manager at Tarkington’s San Francisco office. While there, he supervised the accounting department’s daily operations, including billing, accounts payable, collections, general ledger, bank reconciliation, and financial reporting. He worked closely with banking relationships, managing partners, and the firm administrator to successfully achieve the firm’s business goals.
