(California Daily Journal) Joseph Saveri Law Firm associate Itak Moradi has authored “California Takes Aim at Monopolies With Proposed Antitrust Law Reform,” published in the January 2, 2026 California Daily Journal legal newspaper. Itak analyzed recent proposed modifications to California’s Cartwright Act, the state’s primary antitrust statute, including the proposed addition of prohibitions on single-firm conduct.
In 2022, the state Legislature tasked the California Law Revision Commission with recommending these proposed reforms. The CLRC responded by launching a study and created eight expansive working groups to identify perceived gaps in the Cartwright Act. Initial reports were drafted and issued, followed by public meetings and comments. In December 2025, the group issued its tentative recommendation specific to single-firm conduct legislation.
If passed in line with the recommendations, this legislation would make significant departures from federal elements required for a Section 2 claim under the Sherman Antitrust Act. Itak discussed these changes and how they are needed to acknowledge the landscape of today’s economy.
This is Itak’s second article to recently appear in the Daily Journal. In 2024, she authored “Sotomayor’s Retirement Debate Sparks Discussion on Sexism, Ageism, and Ableism,” which analyzed calls for U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor to retire due to political, health, and age considerations.
